In December 2022, I made my first vision board. I used to put down my goals for the year and my strategy for achieving them until this point. My list, though, always seemed to work against me. I knew about vision boards, but I didn’t care to invest much energy in them. When I finally decided that I was going to do things differently in 2023, I started by drafting my first vision board. At first, I had no idea how to accomplish it. All I wanted to do was try.
When I looked back on my year in review as 2023 drew to a close, I realised that I was living the reality that I had crafted on the vision board. Everything on my board is staring at me right now. I am living the life I envisioned. I was shocked that one little exercise was what it took to get me the life of my dreams. So, I did some research and saw that I did the right things, and they got me to where I am currently.
This is all you need if you are sick of finishing the year feeling unproductive. It is time to explore the transformative power of vision boards. Making a vision board is a deeply personal process that involves goal-setting, self-discovery, and bringing your dreams to life visually.
How to Create a Vision Board
A vision board is a visualisation of the life you desire for yourself by assembling a collection of pictures and quotes. It is a fantastic resource for making your dreams a reality. This board can exist in digital or physical form.
Picture this: a quiet afternoon, a table littered with magazines, scissors, and glue, and a heart brimming with hopes and ambitions. If you are like me, Canva and a couple of pictures on your laptop will do.
The tragedy in life doesn’t lie in not reaching your goal. The tragedy lies in having no goal to reach.

With scissors in hand or a mouse under your palm, prepare to cut out images and quotes that resonate with your deepest desires. Or get pictures online that align with the things you want to see in your life. If you are doing this online, pick a template that works for you. There are so many vision board templates that you can tweak to create your own.
As you arrange these cutouts on your board or join pictures on your canvas, let your ambitions excite you. Each piece represents a facet of your dreams.
This peaceful afternoon is about giving your dreams life, not only about making a collage of images. You are creating a canvas for your future with every word and image you choose with care.
Select images that resonate with your aspirations. Whether it's a picture symbolising career success, a serene landscape representing inner peace, or words that echo your mantras, let the collage be a symphony of your hopes and ambitions.
The vision board is your visual manifestation of what you seek in life. It's a tangible representation of your goals, a daily reminder of the path you're paving for yourself.
Infuse your personality into the board. Include photographs, written notes, or any element that makes the vision board uniquely yours.
This quiet afternoon is just the beginning. Your vision board is dynamic. It evolves with you. Place it in a space where you can revisit it daily, letting it serve as a beacon of inspiration. If you made your vision board on Canva or any other online design software, print it out. Yes, take that extra step.
Think about ways you can achieve the things that are staring at you. This is the most important step to bringing your vision board to life. When you look at the board, the question, “How?” should gape back at you.
To put a bow on this tale…

Write the vision; make it plain on tablets, so he may run who reads it. Still, the vision awaits its appointed time; it hastens to the end—it will not lie. If it seems slow, wait for it; it will surely come. It will not delay.
